Working on Water Riot!

This past week was a creative inflection point for Water Riot in Beta a Cyber Punk Rock Opera.

I’ve been building the musical world with composer, music director and multi-instrumentalist Mike Przygoda, and for the last week we’ve had some amazing musicians in the mix as we jam on some of the core music.

June 9th we shared what we’ve got so far with a limited audience at an Open Rehearsal, hosted by the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, which has commissioned the project.

I’ve brought all kinds of lyrics and musical ideas into the process. And I’ve learned a lot about the possibilities for this show. Found some interesting shape to what’s been invoked by our interpretation of a cyber punk rock opera. Also brought up lots of questions – in story, design and movement…. It’s rich folks!

My goal this year is to finish the songbook, and in September the MCA will present a concert sharing the music we’ve been building.  Lots of work to do between now and then, but the foundation is strong!
