BREAKING… through, in, out, etc.

I’ve been in PITCH MODE.  It’s part of the hustle of being a writer.

submitting submitting submitting

applying applying applying

meeting meeting and meeting….

            with potential collaborators

            with producers, presenters, peers

funders, and community partners.

Mostly for NightQueen – the suite of live performance works I’ve been hammering away at for a few years:

·      underdrown – the stage play

·      water riot – the cyber punk rock opera

·      And now a third experience has taken shape…

not quite titled yet, but more of an interactive installation piece that establishes the lore of this shared universe.  The creative process for this one has been more scattershot, random. More vibes-driven. More elusive. But I found a lot of clarity over the last fifteen days or so, and now I’m in a flow… I LOVE WHEN THAT HAPPENS.

And  I’m really excited to have all three of these interrelated projects coming together around the same time.  2024 is going to be wild, here in Chicago and in NYC, and hopefully a few other spots along the way.

I am a resident artist with New York Live Arts, for example. And so 2024 will have me in Gotham frequently as water riot enters its next stage of development.

And I’m leveraging my Creative Capital award and few other opportunities to forge next steps for underdrown and the installation/ engagement piece that ties everything together.

All this hustle I’m pushing right now is create opportunities to meaningfully grow each project into its full potential.

I’m excited. I’m grateful.  At times exhausted, but overwhelmingly optimistic. It’s all falling into place. So ttay tuned.

In the meantime, here’s the stuff I’m reading/watching/ listening to that has me excited right now:

·      The Nacirema Society by Pearl Cleage

·      Binti by Nnedi Okorafor

·      Foundation (TV adaptation / inspired by Asimov’s novels) –  One day I will meet Jane Espenson

·      Rebels – Little Dragon & April  + Vista

·      Reservation Dogs Season 3 - Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi

·      Star Trek Lower Decks  - Mike McMahon

·      One Piece - live action adaptation of the hit manga by Eiichiro Oda

·      Baldur’s Gate (I suck, bu tits high time I let my gamer side get some play)

·      Tom Clancy’s The Division (I suck even more, but I’ll get good soon)
