2024 - Year in Review

A Swiftly Tilting Planet – that’s how 2024 feels to me right now.  The national political narratives unfolding here in the states are unsettling and overwhelming, but they aren’t the whole story.

Looking back at my creative practice, I’ve moved ahead here and there, and I have lots of reasons to be excited.  Here’s a few highlights:

Spring 2024 Peabody Awards

I was lucky to get on the guest list for this star-studded awards show. That was a fun, red carpet moment!

Award for my cyber punk rock opera

water riot in beta: a cyber punk rock opera received an artist development award via the New England Foundation for the Arts

the project was a finalist for the 2024 round of awards, and although we didn’t nab the grand prize, the $10K grant was deployed to help offset core creative development costs.  https://www.nefa.org/news/twelve-theater-ensembles-receive-national-theater-project-awards

2024 Theater Communications Group Conference

The conference overall was energizing. There’s so much exciting work going on, new ways of making things happen, and it’s just helpful to be in community with so many people committed to this art form.

And I was one of the guest speaker at an interesting Long-Table program during the conference:

Food For Thought: A Dinner Party Where Real Talk with Grantmakers and Theatre Makers is the Only Course

I had a great time offering perspectives on the arts ecosystem and philanthropy.  It was a thought-provoking dialogue and I’m looking forward to more opportunities for thought leadership.

Other Updates

We tested out a small-scale water riot performance with our friends at the Freshwater Lab, I started two new TV pilots, and I started to see the fusion between my creative practice and my work in non-profit administration.

In some respects, things are coming together in ways that make a lot of sense.  That’s cause for optimism from where I’m standing, and gratitude. But there’s always so much more to do!

Anyway, really posting this to mark the moment.
